Grounding or “earthing” is when you go barefoot on sand, dirt, rock, grass, or water to connect with the energy of the earth. It recharges you, is great for your health, and has numerous wellness benefits. It may seem a little far fetched at first, but it’s actually surprisingly good for you.
How do I know this? Because I tried it and it worked.
The earth is electromagnetic. You might have heard me say that “everything is energy” – because it is! Well, Mother Nature has a beautiful current flowing through this lovely planet, which is its own electromagnetic field. This is known as the Schumann Resonance.
Earthing, or grounding, is the process of connecting your body (usually the soles of your feet) directly with the earth so that it can transfer the energy into you.
When I lived in The Hamptons in 2020, I started “grounding” by spending at least 20 minutes (a few days per week) either walking barefoot on the beach or standing on the grass in my backyard. I started off feeling cranky and tired, and after spending the time barefoot I began to feel calm, peaceful and relaxed like I had taken the preverbial “chill pill.”
Since moving back to Las Vegas I have found myself renting a lovely home with synthetic grass in the back yard. This is not exactly conducive to the Divine grounding experience I had become accustomed to.
However, we are so fortunate to live only about ten minutes drive away from the Red Rock Canyon Reserve and that is the perfect place (even in Winter) to go barefoot and connect with mother nature.
Now this might sound like some hippy dippy shizz, but it’s actually got some great scientific valifity behind it.
Go to Duck Duck Go and search for “earthing”.
Here’s what it apparently helps with:
- Balances cortisol levels – reduces stress.
- Reduces inflammation in the body.
- Improves circulation and cardiovascular health.
- It can improve your mood.
- Strengthens immunity.
If you don’t follow Dr. Zach Bush MD on Instagram, please do. He regularly states that it’s great for our health to experience as many biodiverse environments as we possibly can because it’s wonderful for our immunity. This includes doing things like grounding.
There are about a gazillion free health hacks that can radically improve your levels of self-care. Earthing is just one of these ways, and I hope you will try it for yourself and see the benefits. Hugging trees might seem silly but it works really well too.
