There Are So Many Beautiful Reasons to Be Happy

Without doubt, the most common block in the manifesting process is the inability to tune into reasons to be grateful on a daily basis. But wouldn’t you love to know how to reframe a situation that disappoints you and rise above it with a sense of new and inspired energy?

It’s pretty simple actually and it’s a really powerful tool to have in your spiritual toolbox so that you don’t start to manifest disappointment and low energy as a repetitive pattern in your life. Trust me, that shit can snowball!

A few days ago I posted this quote on my Facebook page that many people started to react to in a really surprising and interesting way.

Being grateful for your breath is a wonderful way to access the beauty of the present moment and to raise your vibration.

2. Senses

Being grateful for your ability to see, touch, taste, smell, hear and feeling is so important. It’s a gift from the Universe to enjoy your journey of life.

3. Technology

Be grateful for the beautiful connection that technology offers us. You can discover new things and meet new people. Did you know that I met my husband on Twitter?

4. Compassion

Really imagine what it would be like to walk a mile in another’s shoes. How would it feel to see the world through their eyes? Open your heart and remember to be grateful for your innate gift of compassion.

5. Being of service

When you open your heart and make it your mission to inspire and help others then you get out of the negative patterns that are holding you back. This is a powerful process that activates the energy of appreciation with random acts of kindness.

The Power of Gratitude As A Gentle Remedy for Sadness

Have you ever experienced depression? Sadness? Loneliness? Felt like Eeyore from Winnie The Pooh? Or just felt sheer frustration that life seems to suck sometimes? You’re not alone.

I’m going to get a little vulnerable here. Lately, I’ve been experiencing some sadness. If you know me, you’ll know that I’m usually a really happy person, but I’ve been feeling a bit like a fish out of water over the last few weeks. Feelings include: homesickness, physical sickness (temporary of course), worry about a family member with a nasty life-threatening meth addiction, sadness because of the largest mass shooting in US history, and the list goes on. My heart has been in a heavy funk. For the most part the things I feel sad about have nothing to do with me directly and yet I’m feeling it all.

I know that allowing myself to feel the full and beautiful spectrum of emotions is part of the process. I’m an empath, I get it, I really do. Which is why I give myself full permission to ride out the wave until this shit storm passes. Many people assume that just because I’m a ‘personal development’ teacher or ‘spiritual’ teacher that I don’t experience the natural ebb and flow of ordinary emotions. I do! In fact, I don’t know anyone that is always ‘happy happy joy joy’ all the time.

The true spiritual growth comes from HOW we manage during these times. It’s also about having the awareness that it’s temporary and it’s totally OKAY to be a hot mess for as long as you need.

The good news is that finally, I’m feeling the fog start to lift and fade away. The secret? Making a decision to snap the fuck out of it (in the most gentle way possible) and start looking for things appreciate in my life. No matter how tiny and insignificant it might seem, I’m constantly looking for things to appreciate because the more I do it, the better I begin to feel. For instance, I just watched ‘Cupcake Wars’ on Netflix with my daughter. They made vegan cupcakes and the inspiration, creativity and motivation of the bakers really made me feel grateful.

I also watched this Tony Robbins video that popped up in my Facebook stream when I needed it most. It was about the true definition of abundance and living an abundant life. And that was that life is constructed of “magic moments” that we get to feel and experience with our loved ones. When we recognize them and log them in our hearts, it cements the uplifting feeling of connection we get to experience in the world and the beliefs we carry in our souls. It was the perfect reminder I needed to get back into my natural state of deep appreciation.

If you’re going through a funk right now just trust that as soon as you open your heart up to shifting your perspective then you will start to feel a little bit better.

There really is so much to be grateful for.

The simple act of practicing daily gratitude can literally change your life. Or at best, if you’re feeling like there is nothing to be grateful for try and focus on your breath. One breath after another is keeping you alive, and that’s something to hold deep appreciation and reverence for.

Start your day by writing down 3 things you are grateful for. End your day by writing down 3 things you are grateful for. It’s the perfect way to begin your day and the perfect way to end your day and drift off into dreamland. It’s incredibly simple, but it works.

On Holding Space for Loved Ones That Are Suffering

Do you have a loved one that has a problem with addiction? Do you have a loved one that suffers from depression or other forms of mental illness?

It can be a heartbreaking journey to love someone so deeply and not be able to help them until they are ready to receive the help. Sometimes the person will cut you out of their life in order to avoid facing their demons. Sometimes they attempt to hurt the people they love the most so that it gives them a reason to keep pushing the self destruct button over and over again. It’s a seemingly endless cycle of self hatred and lack of self care.

I sat in my car yesterday crying my eyes out and speaking out aloud. I probably looked like a crazy lady. Right now I’m on the other side of the world from my little sister that is in hospital due to her drug/alcohol addiction and subsequent mental health issues. My parents are with her and trying their best to figure out a plan of action to get her the sustainable help she needs. This journey has been unfolding for nearly 20 years and for anyone that has an addict in their family, I’m sure you know that it can be an ongoing nightmare.

“I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I wish I was a better big sister. You will get through this if you choose to. I wish I could have been there for you so much more. I love you. I love you. I love you. I’m here for you if you need me.”

My little sister has been in and out of hospital more times than I can count. For a while (over 5 years) she was doing so well and worked a 12-step program that included daily meditations and journalling to hand her suffering over to God (the Universe). It was a wonderful way to cope and heal. Our relationship, especially leading up to my wedding in 2013 was amazing. She was my best friend and I felt so incredibly proud of how brave she had been to rise above her demons and be living in the present moment, but then life became tricky to cope with again and she lapsed back into her old patterns of pain.

My sister and I were raised in the same way – in a really loving, creative home with amazing parents dealing with their own shit.  As we know, kids don’t arrive in the world with an instruction manual. At 3 years and 9 months apart we were always fighting as little girls, but there were so many fun times as well where we would laugh until we nearly peed our pants. I would say that as a family we were really close. I’m not sure what the catalyst was, but our journeys went in very different directions as adults.

Many addicts have lived and experienced the darkest shades of humanity and dabbled in various ways to dull their pain and facilitate the ongoing manifestation of shame. However, it’s so important to remember, and especially as the non-addict, that unconditional love, BEYOND JUDGMENT, is incredibly important.

I don’t care about the things my sister did yesterday (as in, the past). They could be (for all I know) the things that most people in society deem to be really “wrong”. I’m choosing to hold space for the sister that I know and love and remember. I believe in her spirit. I believe she is so much more than her mistakes. I believe that her higher self, no matter how cloudy her path, is taking her on a wild ride to facilitate the expansion of her consciousness. It’s a sacred soul contract. It’s her journey. 

My sister has taught me to love unconditionally. She has taught me that we are solely responsible for our own happiness and that releasing expectations is one of the most powerful spiritual lessons to put into daily practice.

My heart feels so heavy for her pain, but it’s the beauty of life in full force.

You can’t experience the light without the darkness.

Now if you know me, you know I don’t believe in blaming others. My sister made the choice to use drugs, she has to live with it. I hold judgment (however) for the scumbag dealers on the streets that create and feed the cycle of addiction. Crystal meth is one of the most addictive substances on the planet. It can fracture your consciousness, break your spirit and make it very hard to want to seek help. Karma is a bitch and so I’m lovingly hoping that the dealer/dealers that preyed on my sister will be met with the same energy that they put out into the world. Take that, motherfuckers!

In the meantime, if you have a moment please send a loving thought or prayer in the direction of my sister. I figure it can’t hurt to share this story and raise awareness for the suffering that millions of families around the world are currently experiencing. xo

The Importance of Being Your Authentic Self and Loving Who You Are Right Now

On Saturday I was getting ready to attend my first charity gala here in Las Vegas to support St.Judes Children’s Research Hospital. I bought a beautiful long blue gown, a pair of silver heels and then went to get my hair and make-up done. I sat at the salon for nearly two hours and when it was finished I looked barely recognizable to myself. My face was caked in make-up that aged me incredibly. I’m 36, but looked a lot older. My eyes were so smokey that I had miraculously been transformed into a cartoon-esque raccoon. And what the hell is contouring? I had brown make-up streaks all over my face to create the effect of having had ‘work done’. My softness had vanished and I was my make-up artist’s definition of ‘fierce.’ Work it baby, work it.

I sat in the car before driving home with a heavy heart and wondered what my husband would say. Not that I needed his approval, but my time is very valuable and I just spent 2 hours being made to look like a total stranger to myself. It felt icky and I knew I had to take action.

Usually I like wearing very little make up at all – just tinted sunscreen, winged liner, mascara, rosy cheeks, and some sparkly eye shadow. I could barely see through the spider-like false lashes. My daughter greeted me at the house and said that I looked like Kim Kardashian. This was a very clear sign from the Universe I hadn’t quite achieved the look I desired.

Sean (my hubs) is the type of guy that tells me I look beautiful at the weirdest moments. You know, when I haven’t brushed my hair, or have a cold etc. My husband’s reaction was priceless. He was teetering on the line between wanting to tell me I looked beautiful and not wanting to hurt my feelings because I looked like something from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. We laughed a lot about it. With less than 2 hours until the gala, I decided to peel back the make up and soften the look. I couldn’t spend a whole evening hidden behind a mask.

A few dozen baby wipes swept over my face later, and a few minor touch-ups with my own make-up stash, I was feeling back to normal. See from the picture below that it was CAKED on and my eyebrows looked monstrous.

It got me thinking about people that walk through life thinking that they need to look a certain way or behave a certain way in order to gain the approval of others. The media bombards women with perceived ideals of beauty and profits from making people not feel very good about themselves in order to invest in the next big gimmick such as anti-aging cream, weight loss solutions and other “magic beans” that could never create sustainable inner transformation.

Self acceptance is magical.

The older I get, the less I give two flying fruitcakes about being like anyone else.

On the evening of the gala we walked through the Encore casino past lines of young girls waiting to get into a nightclub. There was an obvious uniform, which consisted of make-up to make them look older than they are (seriously, what’s the rush?), the shortest of short skirts, and the thickest energy of ‘see me’ and ‘make me feel visible and validated.’ Now don’t get me wrong, it’s an important human need to be visible and validated but when we don’t truly embrace our own uniqueness then it compounds into issues relating to our worthiness.

Sadly, young girls are the most susceptible to becoming lemmings. These girls grow into women that then have daughters that perpetuate the cycle of not feeling good enough. It’s sad, but we must send them love and compassion and not judgment, because life will change them. It changed me, I used to be the same.

When we don’t feel worthy it blocks the flow of energy to manifest the things we want into our lives.

We need to be our true, authentic self and allow our unique gifts to shine in the world. We need to teach our daughters (and sons) not to follow blindly but to tune into their own iconic nature and essence.

By loving who you are RIGHT NOW and not wishing everything would be different, then you are showing the Universe that you are ready for expansion. You are truly grateful for where you’re at in your life right now and that the present moment is nurturing you for the highest and greatest good.

A brave mother got up to speak at the gala about her daughter’s fight to beat cancer. The little girl was so beautiful even though she was missing hair, very pale, and had clearly been gravely ill. It was the beautiful perspective needed to remember it’s not about make-up, fancy clothes or the silly things we do to feel visible no matter what age we are – it’s the HUMANITY of love and compassion that we offer to one another no matter what the situation that will illuminate a beautiful path of consciousness to unfold.

I AM WORTHY: On Self-Care and Releasing Limiting Beliefs

Our bodies are the beautiful vessels that contain and carry our souls throughout life. They teach us how to pay attention to our environment, our relationships, our overall wellness, and how to thrive on a day-to-day basis. Some of us LOVE our bodies, some of us tolerate our bodies, but sadly there are many of us that just downright hate our bodies as well. We want them to be different in some way – perhaps a different shape, texture, size, and the list goes on. Striving to make peace with our physicality can be a life-long spiritual journey but the bottom line is this…

Loving your body (or in the least feeling grateful for the way it serves you) is honoring your soul and honoring the Universe for trusting you to live life though the magnificent vessel that you are.

If we live in a state of rejecting a major part of who we are, we then end up blocking our flow of energy as we move throughout life. We teach our children to be self-conscious and that they aren’t worthy enough to live life to their fullest potential. We literally stifle the willingness to be open to all possibilities. By shining a light on our body issues we actually help to lift the burden. As a society we MUST promote more self acceptance and body confidence, otherwise there will be millions of people pushing the self destruct button because they never feel like they are enough.

Last week I did something that I never thought I would do. Now this might sound a little crazy to you, but at nearly 37 years old I had MY VERY FIRST PEDICURE. Why did it take me so long? Because I was scared of the energy.

Let me explain a little further…

My feet kind of look like doll’s feet and I’ve always felt self-conscious of my puffy little tootsies. I decided to flip this to gratitude: my feet hold me up and they carry me through life. During the pedicure my feet LOVED being massaged and pampered. In fact the lady that was working on my feet said she could feel how much my toes were responding to the treatment. The reason I’d always avoided pedicures was because I held the belief for so long that I would take on board the feelings and weird vibrations in some negative way. Also, I never saw my mother go for pedicures because she doesn’t like people touching her feet without it freaking her out.

It’s these little bullshit rules that we carry around with us through life that can prevent us from experiencing so much joy. I believe my silly ‘spiritual snobbery’ rules were a clever smokescreen for my lack of feeling worthy enough to take care of myself.

The truth was that my judgement was getting in the way. I was choosing FEAR over LOVE and missing out on decades of foot love. It got me thinking about the other areas in my life that I block the flow of abundance. After all, our beliefs are the gatekeepers to our life experience. We can either approach everything with an open or closed heart and that will determine the fulfillment we allow ourselves to be involved in during our lives.

I’ve been anorexic, bulimic, struggling to lose the baby weight, riddled with loose skin, stretch marks, and the list goes on. In all honestly I have been out of my body for most of my adult life, but I’m thankful to now be aware that’s not the way I want to continue to play the game.  Because here’s the thing…

Being spiritually integrated means that all three elements (mind, body, spirit) of my being are working together to run the show. If I deny the existence of one of those important elements it creates imbalance and discord. I said to my husband yesterday that you couldn’t pay me enough money to want to be in my twenties again. What I know for sure is that the older I get, the more comfortable and accepting I am of my perceived (usually self-perceived) “flaws”. In fact, they’re not flaws at all because that would imply that something is less than perfect or “wrong”. The bumps, lines, lumps and wobbly bits all tell a story. It’s my temple, and it’s now time to rise up and take care of myself in the form of pedicures, massages, regular hair visits and other delicious forms of pampering because I AM WORTHY and so are you.

7 Signs From Your Higher Self You Can’t Afford to Ignore

We all have intuitive powers that help to guide us through life. Many people share stories of how listening to certain gut feelings spared them and saved them from incredibly dangerous and not-so-fun situations. Sometimes the messages can be extremely subtle and tricky to discern. These can range from a teeny-tiny gut feeling to the innate knowing that something just doesn’t feel good.

Intuition is like a muscle, the more you work at developing it, the stronger it will become. This is an incredibly powerful tool in your spiritual toolbox to work with. Here are 7 Signs from Your Higher Self that you just can’t afford to ignore…

1. When you feel like something just isn’t right.

You know in your gut when something just doesn’t feel right. I remember after I was suffering miscarriage after miscarriage the doctors couldn’t find the physical reason I kept losing the babies. Everything was tested, and everything seemed fine and in good working order. However, on a deep level I felt like because I had worked so hard on the “spiritual reasons” my baby wasn’t manifesting there still had to be a “physical reason” why I could only stay pregnant for up to 10 or 11 weeks. It wasn’t until I moved states and found a more progressive doctor that she tested me for a gene mutation called MTHFR. Turned out that this was the reason I suffered recurring miscarriages. So I guess the moral of this story is to go with your gut, follow those hunches and keep seeking second and third opinions until your situation “feels right” again. Our intuitive guidance system is such a blessing, we must remember how to use those bullshit detectors to their full capacity.

A message from you higher self: BELIEVE BEYOND WHAT YOU CAN SEE

2. When a little voice whispers a message to you.

Sometimes we hear little voices that give us messages and snippets of wisdom that will help us out in our lives in some way.  To be clear, these are NOT the same types of voices that so-called “crazy” people might be listening to. I’m talking about an intuitive connection to your higher self that is often helping you in your times of need. These could be the voice of your spirit guides or guardian angels etc.

I remember one day when my husband Sean and I were picking up the kids from school. We were running late, so he told me to get out of the car at the stop light and he’d find somewhere to park. I heard a strong voice in my head say “NO” just as I was about to open the car door. As I paused, a school bus went speeding right by us. If I hadn’t of taken that pause and listened to the voice I would have been hit by that bus. I was extremely grateful that I listened, otherwise I wouldn’t be here to be telling that story.

3. When you see signs of alignment and choose to ignore them.

When you are on a spiritual journey and you’re living your life by cultivating conscious awareness, signs of alignment from the Universe are frequently presented to you. These signs can be messages from your higher self that you are on the right path. My husband Sean and I see rainbows as a sign of alignment. We saw one on the day we met, the day we got engaged and in various other times when we have launched new ventures within our company.

But when you hold and intention dear to your heart and you are then presented with signs that you choose to ignore, then energetic resistance begins to build up. Many of us tend to put our own needs last. We think that because we have children, or because we don’t have enough money or other various excuses that we are unable to follow our dreams. This kind of thinking, where we willfully reject the signs of alignment is flawed. You have the power to see and view the world around you as a mirror of your own consciousness. If you see that white rabbit, you need to follow it. It will help your soul to expand and grow in miraculous ways. It’s time to stop being fearful of living to your full potential.

4. When you have recurring dreams or experience recurring synchronicities.

Do you have the same tidal wave dream over and over again? Or do you see the same person showing up in different locations all over your city? When the energetic signature patterns of life are in our awareness there is usually a reason behind it. It’s a message… perhaps and instruction and sometimes a warning. Your job is to follow the clues and see if you can make sense of the reason the information is being presented to you on a regular basis.

5. When your needs aren’t being met in a relationship.

When you don’t use your voice in a relationship then the Universe will pick up the pace of your spiritual lessons and speak for you. If you know in your heart that your relationship isn’t working and you stay without making an attempt to shine a light on the situation then you are dishonoring yourself at a very deep level. You are worthy of your needs being met. You are worthy to be loved and treated in a way that makes you feeling amazing. If you’re currently feeling this way, then see it as a sign that deep transformation needs to take place. Whether you stay or you leave, a decision needs to be made, before it’s made for you.

6. When you have thoughts that don’t make sense.

Have you ever had a thought about someone that didn’t make any sense and then a deep or dark secret was exposed and your intuition was verified? Sometimes when we follow these hunches about people we fall into the trap of judging unfairly. However, there is a really delicate balance to strike where if you have a certain thought about someone then there must be a vibrational match to their energy somehow. The key is to not allow fear to govern your instincts. For instance, you can’t constantly be checking your partners phone to see if they’re cheating on you because more that likely you will create that experience from your lack of trust. But when you have a random thought or a hunch about someone or something just allow it to be and don’t interfere. Send the thoughts love and allow them to play out as they are meant to.

7. When you ignore ongoing health issues and pretend they’ll go away.

You might have a pesky cough that doesn’t seem to go away, or a mole that keeps changing color, or a weird lump that you are trying to ignore. Whatever it is, you really can’t afford to ignore the health symptoms that are being presented to you. My mother-in-law is vigilant at getting a breast examination each year and it literally saved her life when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at an early stage. Our bodies work just like anything else in our lives, if you ignore problems then they will get bigger until you do something about them.

This is often triggered when you are in close proximity to someone. You might shake their hand and get a flash of their porn addiction, how much resentment they hold towards their mother or that they question their sexuality. These “downloads” always need to be met with compassion.

2. Your intuition is usually on fire

An empath will usually be able to anticipate an outcome if something is going to work out, or if something is destined to take a detour. An empath has been blessed with the incredible gift of discernment and not only knows what is best for themselves, but has the insight to tune into what will serve others as well.

4. You’re a picky eater

The weird vibes of an empath can get triggered frequently by food, restaurants and how the meals are prepared. You might find yourself taking on board the energy of the food you are eating. The skilled empath will map out certain places they will eat, and certain places that don’t meet the vibe-criteria.

5. Cemetaries are beautiful, but they freak you out

Empaths get swept into the beauty and mystical nature of the non-physical realm. However, at cemetaries, some hospitals and places where ‘bad shit has gone down’ can manifest as strong intuitive nudges to get out of there as soon as possible. Most empaths can identify a bodily sensation that occurs when they sense eerie energy. I usually feel it in my knees, oddly enough.

6. Arcades, hotel beds and crowds are challenging

Thought forms are a massive hurdle for empaths, especially in crowds. Since they tend to be overly sensitive to sounds, bright lights and close proximity to others, the empath doesn’t really like to spend too much time touching stuff that others have touched. By far, being equipt with a bullshit detector is one of the best gifts that an empath possesses. The empath can smell a liar a mile away. The empath knows when someone is trustworthy or when someone is full of shit. The fun part of this equation is standing back and witnessing the energy of misleading information. It can be an opportunity to offer compassion and to use your energy wisely.

How to Use Affirmations to Heal Your Life

We all have emotional wounds or “issues” that need a little more love and attention in order to heal. One of the fastest ways to inject new and miraculous energy into your life is to use the power of affirmations. They truly work wonders and can radically lift you up from having issues with worthiness, fear or limitation to shining your inner light a hell of a lot brighter.

So what are affirmations?

Affirmations are positive statements that you repeat over and over again in order to imprint your subconscious mind. They are usually words that trigger an emotional reaction or response within you that brings up the healing that needs to take place. There will almost always be resistance that will appear in order to challenge you. This is a natural and perfectly normal part of the process. Your job is to see beyond the “monkey mind’ and keep moving forward regardless.

What affirmations are NOT…

Affirmations are not magic beans, band-aid solutions or a clever way to trick the Universe into thinking that you have your shit together, when clearly you don’t (at present). Affirmations will not work unless you are willing to dive into the emotional work that needs to be done and be truly HONEST about where you’re at.

How do they work?

How it works is that words that inspire, empower and excite you have the power to override the current programming you have in your mind and help to form new beliefs which in turn will help to shift the landscape of your current reality. You’re essentially raising your vibration and increasing the positive energy of your soul’s frequency.

Affirmations are a method to bring about newfound change in your life through the process of repetition. The idea is that you find an empowering affirmation that you resonate with within your heart and either write it out or place a printed copy somewhere in your constant awareness. It could be on the bathroom mirror, the corner of your computer screen or in a little pocket in your purse. Every time you see the affirmation you, repeat (or imprint) the affirmation over and over again until it sticks to your soul. You also need to feel the feeling the affirmation will give you.

Let’s try a little exercise together…

I want you to use the affirmation I AM WORTHY.

Say it now, (silently). Say it again. Notice how you feel and round up the negative feelings or itty bitty feelings of resistances and imagine yourself throwing them out because they no longer serve you. I AM WORTHY. How to deal with doubt Once you start to use affirmations, you will notice that the better you get at decluttering the icky feelings as they arise the stronger your resolve will be. A secret to truly mastering affirmations: The Universe cannot differentiate between what is happening in the physical realm, or what is happening and being imprinted in the spiritual realm. When you use your affirmation as if it has already happened, then you strengthen your manifesting power. I have taught thousands of people about this in my Ancient Manifesting Ritual.
